About Grandmaster and Master

Grandmaster Huh is 55 years old and was born in Seoul, Korea. Inspired by his father and four brothers, Grandmaster Huh began his martial arts training at the young age of five. He trained under Grandmaster Yong Q Seo and attended Kang Moon High School, where he was the instructor of their martial arts team. In 1973, while attending college, Grandmaster Huh won the gold medal at the Korean Martial Arts College Championships. It was at this point that he was commissioned to be the instructor of the Korean National Martial Arts Demonstration Team (a position he held until his departure from Korea). During this time, he also became a popular star of Korean martial arts films, particularly with his big success in the 1972 movie "Black Cat".

Grandmaster Huh spent three years in the South Korean army. There he developed a killing martial art for the army's Special Forces which is called Sal Sool. For about a year, Grandmaster Huh lived in the Do Bong mountains and spent his days teaching Korean monks Kuk Sool. Shortly thereafter, he was hired to teach the Korean presidential bodyguards his art. He also later spent 8 months instructing soldiers of the United States Army and White House Secret Service. During Grandmaster Huh's remaining years in Korea, he operated three Kuk Sool Kwan studios in Seoul. His schools were rated at the top in weapons and fighting.

In 1982, Grandmaster Huh brought Kuk Sool Kwan to America. From the time of his arrival until 1998, he continued to teach the art of Kuk Sool in California, with several studios based out of Orange County. Grandmaster Huh now officiates belt promotion examinations and gives guidance for demonstrations at the Kuk Sool dojang in Irvine. He received the presidency of Kuk Sool Kwan for the United States from Yong Q Seo in 2003, and places his chop on all dan certificates awarded to Kuk Sool students. He now spends his time hunting and dealing for antiques in Fullerton, California.

Master Dunchok is 31 years old and was born in Sassari, Italy. From a young age, Master Dunchok was interested in learning in all its forms, and had an insatiable appetite to understand the world. As martial arts seemed to be represented in popular culture as the one thing that offered legitimate hidden knowledge, and at the same time seemed to be about perfecting an individual, he asked his father to enroll him in martial arts at the age of 11. After looking around at all the martial arts schools in the area, he found Master Huh's school, and was impressed immediately. Master Huh's studio lacked the fancy trappings and flair of the other dojos in the area, but Master Dunchok and his father both agreed that Master Huh's presence was overwhelming. He began practicing for several hours everyday, and would sometimes go to the studio directly after school. After a performance at his blue belt test which impressed Grandmaster Huh's visiting colleagues, Master Dunchok was given accelerated training, and received his first degree black belt at the age of 12, after a little under two years of practice. Master Dunchok was very active with Master Huh's studio throughout his high school years as well, continuing the same habits of hard practice that he began martial arts with. He earned his 3rd dan at the age of 15.

Master Dunchok attended Humboldt State University, where he majored in Theater Arts and graduated in May of 2000. Master Dunchok is a classically trained tenor, an illustrator, and a student of Chinese and Latin. He has since been involved with acting on stage plays and musicals as well as doing martial arts stuntwork and fight scenes on film and television. He opened the Kuk Sool Kwan dojang in Orange County out of a desire to preserve the unique martial heritage of Kuk Sool Kwan and to afford himself the lifestyle and practice time to take his martial arts skill to the grandmaster level and beyond.

Master Dunchok is a 4th degree black belt in Kuk Sool, and is months away from having trained and certified his first black belt students.
